Tuesday, July 6, 1954
The Orange County Board of Commissioners met is regular aeesion on Tues-
day, July b, 1954 at 10 o'clock A. 31. in the Commlasionera' room at the Court
house in Billsboro> North Carolina.
Mombars present: Chairman R. 0. Forrest, Commissioner Sim L. Efland and
Commissioner R. J. 34. Hobbs.
Members Absent: None.
The minutes of the past five meetings were read and approved.
IIpon motion duly made and seconded the following Aid to Hlind Grants
ware approved:
Releh Dollar Lanier 540.00 per month
Sophronia Sykes reduced from 542 to 530 per month
Sallie Pope - terminated
whereas, it Ss neces s¢rg aad proper that fixed salaries, principal and
intareat of indebtedness, stated compensetion of officers and employees, and
uausl ordinary expanses of the county and its subdivisions may be promptly
paid.
Now, therefore, upon motion of Commissioner Efland, duly seconded by
Commiesloner Hobbs, it 1e hereby ordered that the following interim
appropriations be made:
To the General Fund S 2,500.00
To Public {Yelfard Fund 20,000.00
To Salary Fund 3, 000. CO
To School Fund 10,000.00
To Recorder's Court Fund 500.00
To Realth Funds 1 00.00

The County Accountant is authrolzed and directed to pay current ordinary
expanses against the funds above listed not exceeding the amounts of the
appropriations hereby made. Said apnropr iatl ons made by this resolution shalt
be chnrgeeble to the several appropriations respectively horeafter made in ti
annual eo propriat ions resolution and adoption of ennual budget for the year
1954-1955, which will be done at the adjourned July 26, 1954 meeting of the
Hoard.
Upon motion of Commissioner Erland, seconded by Commies Sonar Aobbs, M. C
Hurt, Colored County Farm Agent, was granted permission to attend a three
weeks refresher course in Agriculturel Extension Procedure at Cornell Univer-
si.ty, Ithaca, N. Y., July 12-30, on a Scholarship Grant.
The Board of Education and Mr. G. Paul Carr, Superintendent of Schools,
appeared end discussed their 1954-1955 budget requests.
Mr. C. VV. Devis, Superintendent of Chapel Aill Schools and Mr. Grey
Culbre th, a member of the Chapel Hill School Board, anpeard in connection
with their budget renuest forthie fiscal yes r.
Tha Boerd informed the above that statements had been made that the
19S4-S5 County Tax Rate would be from S.S7 to 5.62, and to keep within a
5.62 tex rate it would be necessary to cut the request far schools.
Uoon motion of Commissioner Efland, seconded by Cartusiss inner Robbs, the
following resolution was unanimously adopted:
That whereas, the Hoard has discussed the fiscal budget for the year
1954°1955 and has agreed upon tentative figures in said budget, but final
adoption thereof has been poe tponod until the adjourned meeting on July
z6, 1954, in order that said tentative budget may ba d.~ly published and a
copy thereof be filed in the office of the Register of Deeds for public
insnectioa.
