The Board of Corm¢i ssioners for the County of Orange, State of North
Caroline, met on Monday, Apr 11 5, 1954, at 10 o~clock .4. ti, in the Commissions s~
Room at the Courthouse in Hillsboro, the usunl place of meeting.
Members present: Chairman R. 0. Forrest, end Commissioners Sim L. Efland ., ~
end R. T. td. Hobbs.
Members absent: None.
Patrolman T. P. Smith appeared on behalf of the Orange County State High-
way P¢trol and ask for an office in the new courthouse.
The Aos r3 of Education ¢nd representatives from the League of 'iJomen
Voters appeared and discussed the purchase of oroper~ty for Carrboro School.
Upon motion of Commissioner Hobbs, eaconded by Commissi oner Efl.and, the
bronze pleaue to be placed in the Courthouse ie to be paid for out of the
Llnergency Fund.
Upon motion of Commissioner Etland, seconded by Commisai oner Hohbs, the
following Aid to Blind Grants were approved: Sohn W. Atklnson, 3SS•00 per
month; Corine Atwater, E:16.00 par month; William Ben~amin Holt, from $32.00
to 342.00 per month.
The following budget for P.Sd to Blind was presented by .Sias Annie Strowd,
Superintendent of Public .1lelfare, and upon motion duly m¢de and seconded, was
tentatively approved:

The Orange County Board of Education appeared and reouested that the
Board of Commissi one re issue $65,000 in bonds to enable them to build the
Cameron Park Elementary Bchool. ..
After some discussion, upon motion of Commissioner Hobbs, seconded by
Commissioner Forrest, the Board voted that the County Attorney proceed vri th the
necessary arrangements to issue 36$,000 in bonds. The money derived from the
sale of said bonds to be used by the Orange County Hoe rd of Educe t±on. The
vote was affi follovrs:
Ayes; Commissioners Aobbs and Forrest.
Noes: Cormnlssi oner Efland.
