PURPOSE: To consider authorizing a contract with Shaw Coating of Durham for repainting of
the interior of the Jail Annex (1997 addition).
BACKGROUND: An approximately 17,536 gross square foot Jail addition was constructed and
occupied in the fall of 1997. Other than minor touch ups and repairs, the interior surfaces have
not been repainted since occupancy. The Purchasing Department issued a bid document which
closed June 22, 2007 for repainting of the approximately 38,000 square feet of paintable
surfaces, including walls, ceilings, handrails, etc. Bids were received from four contractors. A
summary of bids received is presented as Table 1.

FINANCIAL IMPACT: Adequate funds are available in the jail capital account for completion of
this work.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board authorize the Purchasing
Director to execute a contract with Shaw Coatings in the amount of $24,652 for repainting the
interior of the Orange County Jail Annex.
