PURPOSE: To establish a public hearing date to receive public
comments on Cable TV Franchise Renewal and Cable Rate
Regulations.
BACKGROUND: The Cable TV Franchises with Time Warner Cable
(Cablevision) and Cablevision Industries (CVI) will
terminate on February 24, 1996. The 1992 Cable Act
requires the franchising authority (Orange County) to
conduct public proceedings to identify future cable-
related community needs and interests and review past
performance of cable operators. The Cable Act also
requires public input regarding cable rates before rates
are approved by the Board of Commissioners.
RECOMItENDATION(S) : The Manager recommends that the Board
authorize a public hearing on cable-related
issues for September 6, 1994.
