RECOMMENDATION(S) : That the Orange County Commissioners proclaim August 26, 1994 as Women' s Equality Day in Orange County 2 ' Orange County Commission for Women ........ .. .... . Box 8181 • 110 North Churton Street • Hillsborough, NC 27278 ACTIVITIES FOR WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY - AUGUST 26, 1994 1 . A proclamation of Women' s Equality Day will be presented to the Orange County Board of Commissioners on Monday, August 8th, at 7: 30 p.m. , in the Old County Courthouse in Hillsborough. 2. The Orange County Commission for Women and the League of Women Voters of Chapel Hill-Carrboro will cosponsor Women' s Information Day in northern and southern Orange County on Saturday, August 20th, at Wal-Mart and University Mall , from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Twenty-four local agencies/organizations that provide resources for women will be participating. 3. The Orange County Commission for Women and the League of Women Voters of Chapel Hill-Carrboro will cosponsor special voter registration in conjuction with Women' s Inforamtion Day. 4. A history of women' s rights in North Carolina will be distributed at the special voter registration locations. "; and WHEREAS, the power of the vote is the gateway to continued improvements in the status of women and all peoples; and WHEREAS, the Orange County Commission for Women advises the citizens and the Board of Commissioners of Orange County of the status of women in Orange County; and WHEREAS, that status continues to be unequal , especially economically and politically; and WHEREAS, women make significant contributions economically, Politically and in innumerable ways to Orange County, NOW, THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaims Friday, August 26, 1994, as WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY in celebration of women's contributions and their right to economic and political equality, and hereby urges all citizens to exercise their right to vote and continue to work to guarantee full equality for all women.
