PURPOSE: To present checks to local artists and arts organizations receiving Orange County
Arts Grants.
BACKGROUND: The Orange County Arts Commission grants funds to local artists and arts
organizations from funds received from state government through the Grassroots Arts Program
of the North Carolina Arts Council. Funds are distributed for arts programming in all arts
disciplines. Each grant recipient must match the grant amount in order to receive funding.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The $36,130 in state funds awarded to organizations represents apass-
through of state funds and has no financial impact on Orange County. The $4,500 awarded to
individual artists, the Emerging Artists Program, and the new Arts Incubation recipient in this
cycle is taken from Orange County money already approved for arts grants.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board acknowledge the local
recipients of the awards during the October 23, 2007 meeting with the presentation of checks by
the Board Chair.
