Subject: Board Appointment
The Orange Cotmty Advisory Board on Aging reviewed all applicants for vacant at-large
representation to the Advisory Board. At the Septemberl2th meeting of the Aging Board,
the members recommended Ms. Ellen Ozier-Hayes for appointment. The Aging Board
invites prospective applicants to attend meetings prior to malting iecorrunendations to
assure their uzterests in the worltings of the Board and become familiar with meeting
dates and times. Ms. Ozier-Hayes has attended several advance meetings.
Ms. Ozier-Hayes has experience wonting with the older population in Orange County.
She wonted as an intern with the Department on Aging while studying for a Masters of .
Social Worlt degree at UNC. She has volunteered with several area organizations such as
Alterra C1areBridge's Memory Care facility wonting with residents diagnosed with
Alzheimer's or dementia-related illnesses. She is a former member of the Dulte Brain
Tumor Center Advisory Board and currently serves on the Center for Women's Health
Research Board in Chapel Hill.
Ms. Ozier-Hayes is presently a clinical instructor with the Jordan Instihite's Family and
Children's Resource Program and the Center for Aging Research and Educational
Services. With both her volunteer service and professional experience, she will be as
asset to the Advisory Board on Aging.

The Orange Coiuzty Advisory Board on Aging reviewed the applicants for the vacant
position of Town of Hillsborough resident. At the September 12t1i meeting of the
Advisory Board, the members recommended Mrs. Mariah McPherson for consideration
to the Aging Advisory Board.
As the County Commmissioners are well aware, Mrs. McPherson has vast experience in
serving on many volunteer boards dating from the 1950's to present. Some of the boards
are Capital Needs Advisory Task Force, Htunan Relations Cormnission, Master Aging
Plan Taslcforce-Steering Committee, Central Orange Senior Center Design Committee, as
well as two terms on the Advisory Board on Aging.

Worlc Experience: I have worked as a professional photojournalist for 13 years, but
decided to go back to school to pursue a Master's degree in Social Worlc in August of
2004 to combine my background in journalism with my desire to affect social change
on a macro level. While in the program, I worked as an intern for Dl~lce Hospice and
the Orange County Department on Aging under the supervision of Jerry Passmore and
Kate Barrett. I graduated with an MSW degree focusing on Management and
Community Practice and Aging in May of 2006 and was immediately hued as a
consultant for the Jordan Institute for Families' Rural Success Proj ect. I was appointed
to a Clinical Instructor position in November of 2006, working full-time with the
Jordan Institute's Family and Children's Resource Program and the Center for Aging
Research and Educational Services and I continue to hold this position today.
Volunteer Experience: I volunteered at Alterra C1areBridge's Memory Care facility
