Unfortunately the job I was up for at UNC-Chapel Hill fell through, and I found it necessary to take a temporary position that started on Tuesday. In all honesty, I do not feel I am in the best position to serve. While it was a pleasure meeting you, since I only attended one meeting I do not feel particularly vested and frankly need to concentrate my energies on securing a permanent position, and one closer to home. I wish you and the rest of the board all the best, and I hope the anniversary celebration tonight is an unbridled success and which serves to confirm the Arts Commission's great work& re-energize your efforts. All my best wishes, if with regrets, but with sincere thanks for understanding. I will remove him from the Arts Commission. You do have another applicant out there and I have attached her application for your consideration. Should you decide to recommend her, please let me know ASAP, like the first of the week, and I will add her to your appointment request for October 6, 2015. Having consulted the family calendar, I see my better half will be busy on the Tuesday, the 4th, so anytime that day would be my preference, if that works for you both. If not, please feel to propose time and place that will and I'm sure I'll be able to make it. Cup-a-Joe in Hillsborough or Open Eye in Carrboro makes no difference, and if lunch works better, any independent local eatery would be my preference, Radius or Elmo's for example. Regardless, let me know if there is a window on the 4th that works for you both.. I am still trying to locate the grave of my great-grandparents (grandfather died in 1801). Conflict of Interest: Arts Commission Background, education and experience relevant to this board: Art history courses at Vanderbilt University Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: I have been actively following local artists in Hillsborough and Mebane for a decade now. I am a regular at all the art walks and never miss the Eno Gallery Art in the Garden event. Our local art scene is part of what makes Orange County unique. Conflict of Interest: 11 Page 2 of 2 Jennifer Shelton Durham Technical Community College Board of Trustees Background, education and experience relevant to this board: I hold a Master s Degree from UNC Chapel Hill and have been a college instructor for over 15 years. I have worked in the continuing education department at Alamance Community College so am familiar with the community college system. I also teach high school at The Hawbridge School and know the value community colleges add to the local community. Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: All of my work experience for the past 25 years has been in education. Education is a passion of mine. Conflict of Interest: Supplemental Questions: Durham Technical Community College Board of Trustees What improvements do you believe can be made so that DTCC better serves the residents of Orange County? I have lived in Orange County for 22 years and have worked in the field of education the entire time. I spend a great deal of my time in Hillsborough. I frequent businesses and the library. I rarely miss a town festival. I am in Chapel Hill at least once a week. While I am quite familiar with Alamance Community College, the Durham campus of Durham Technical Community College and the local universities, I have minimum knowledge of the Orange County campus of DTCC. I realize the campus was only opened in 2008, but I have not come across information about the Orange County campus of DTCC, other than what I've actively sought out through the website and social media. From what I've found through my research, the college provides many excellent opportunities for both formal and informal education. So, one way that DTCC could better serve the residents of Orange County is to help the residents of Orange County become more aware of the diverse ways in which the campus serves Orange County. Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: I enjoy participating in the evaluation of art grant applications and advising the BOCC on art and cultural issues for Orange County. Conflict of Interest: Chapel Hill Library Board of Trustees Background, education and experience relevant to this board: I worked for 16 years as a staff member of the Durham County Library and worked as the Staff Liaison to the Friends of the Durham Library, Inc. I have a liberal arts degree from UNC-CH. Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: I am interested in the management and services of libraries and would like to contribute to the planning and implementation of policies and procedures for the Chapel Hill Library. Conflict of Interest: 13 Page 2 of 3 Andrea Riley Durham Technical Community College Board of Trustees Background, education and experience relevant to this board: attended a community college in Rochester, New York, earned 36 credits, and received an excellent education there. I believe in the importance of community colleges as both training institutions forjobs deemed necessary for the communities they serve, and as low-cost alternatives to the first two years of a four-year college education. Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: I would like to have the opportunity to contribute to the formulation of policies and future planning for Durham Technical Community College to influence the primary training and affordable educational opportunities for inhabitants of Orange County. Conflict of Interest: Supplemental Questions: Work Experience: I recently worked for 16 years for the Durham County Library in customer service. I have been a Water Safety (swimming) Instructor, Y.W.C.A. preschool program teacher/director, American Red Cross blood recruiter, McDonald's Corp. customer services/marketing specialist, Duke Press Editorial Asst., publications office administrator for an academic consortium, development/public relations coordinator for a non-profit, Coordinator for the Duke Pre-Major Advising Center, Staff Liaison for the Friends of the Durham Library, Inc., and Teacher's Assistant in the public schools. Education: B.A. from UNC-CH, 1988 (Studio Art major) Certification in Art Education, K-12 from NCCU, 1996 Other Comments: As a past art major and certified art teacher, I am still very interested in the enjoyment and promotion of the arts. I would like to be actively involved with the promotion of the arts in Orange County and I believe that my marketing and promotional experience could be of use. I worked for 16 years in the Durham County Library (and am currently working part- time in the Hillsborough Library). As both a patron and employee of public libraries, I think I know a great deal about what patrons are looking for and appreciate in their libraries. I would enjoy being involved with the Orange County Library as a volunteer advisor, although I don't know whether my employment by the Orange County Library would be seen as a conflict of interest. As a thirty-year resident of Orange County (Chapel Hill for nine years, and Efland for 21), 1 have become a life-long fan . I would like to be involved in the promotion of Chapel Hill and Orange County because I believe I understand what makes this area attractive to residents and visitors alike, and with my experience in both marketing and design, I believe that I can contribute many creative ideas about how to communicate its advantages.
