BACKGROUND: The Clerk's office has received a recommendation from the Carrboro Board
of Adjustment for John Gant. If appointed Mr. Gant will be serving a full term ending 2/28/2010.

The Carrboro Board of Aldermen at its meeting on October 16, 2007 adopted the attached
resolution requesting an appointment to the Carrboro Board of Adjustment. The Board is requesting
that Mr. John Gant be appointed to a Transition Area seat on the Board of Adjustment. His term
will expire in February 2010.

The following resolution was introduced by Alderman Alex Zaffron and duly seconded by
Alderman Joal Hall Broun.
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING AN APPOINTMENT TO A
TRANSITION AREA SEAT ON TI-~ CARRBORO BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
Resolution No. 36/2007-2008
WI~REAS, as a result of a vacancy, it is necessary to appoint a person to a seat reserved on the
Ca.+°rhoYA Board .~fA_djust•!?:ent for. ~ersous residir!g within th.e, town's Trans'~tian Area: and
WI~REAS, by state statute and town ordinance, the Orange County Board of Commissioners
initially has the authority and responsibility to appoint Transition Area members to the town's Board
of Adjustment.
NOW, THEREFORE, T'I~ BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF TIC TOWN OF CARIt]BORO
RESOLVES:
Section 1. The Orange County Board of Commissioners is respectfully requested to appoint the
following individual to a Transition Area seat on the Carrboro Board of Adjustment, whose term
will expire in February 2010:

Section 2. If the Orange County Board of Commissioners fails to appoint persons willing to serve
in the capacity described above within 90 days after receiving this resolution, then the Carrboro
Board of Aldermen may make this appointment.
Section 3. The Town Clerk shall send a copy of this resolution to the Orange County Manager.
Section 4. This resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
The foregoing resolution having been submitted to a vote received the following vote and was
duly adopted this 16th day of October 2007:

Remarks: I am a native of the Triangle area (Durham County) and have been a
resident and taxpayer in Orange Couty for the past 20 years. My two children leave
attended the Chapel Hill public school system daring this time, and oiu family
considers Orange County our permanent home. Consequently, I would enjoy offering
any suppport or expertise in my relevant work skill toward Orange County's goals

Volunteer Experience: I am currently a School Reading Partner at McDougle
Elementary. I've spent several years teachilzg youth Sunday School classes (ages 4-12)
and Achievment Days (an enriclnnent program for girls age 8-12). My foi-~ner
apartment manager gave me the im-official title. of Social Orgaauzer for Berlteslure
Manor Apts. Currently, I am colnmtuucating with Chrystal Fisher of the Orange
County Housing and LandTrust to aid in the organization and dissemination of
information for soon to be displaced tenants in one of Cai-rboro's largest apartment
complexes, that for a limited time continues to accept Section 8 Housing.
Education: I have a Bachelor's of Science in Early Childhood Education from
Brigham Yoiu~g University.
Remarks: I care very deeply about affordable housing in orange county. I feel one of
my major strengths to this board would be my access to and familiarity with the
citizens affordable housing needs to reach. I live in an apartment, I a~n on the waiting
list for a home with the Orange Cotuzty Housing and La11d Ttnist, and I live and work
