PURPOSE: To consider authorizing the purchase of a Toro Procore 1298 Aerator from the Federal
GSA contract.
BACKGROUND: Funds were allocated in the West Ten Soccer Complex budget for the purchase of
an aerator. Staff evaluated several alternatives and determined the Toro Procore 1298 to be the best
solution for aerating the soccer fields at West Ten. The unit will aerate a 64" wide path and will be
pulled (propelled) by tractors presently owned by the County. Those tractors are capable of running
on Bio-diesel. It will also be used by staff on other athletic fields.
The aerator is available on GSA federal contract at a total cost $26,366.55 (with attachments) from
Smith Turf and Irrigation of Charlotte, North Carolina. This item is being presented to the Board
because the purchase price exceeds the Purchasing Director's current signing authority of $20,000.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Total cost of this action, if approved by the Board, would be $26,366.55.
Sufficient funds are allocated in the Board approved West Ten Soccer Complex capital budget.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board authorize the Purchasing
Director to execute the necessary paperwork to purchase the Toro Procore 1298 Aerator from Smith
Turf and Irrigation of Charlotte, North Carolina at a total cost of $26,366.55.
