PURPOSE: To consider making one reappointment to the Board of Social Services.
BACKGROUND: The Clerk's office has received a recommendation from the Board of Social
Services for Patricia Garavaglia. If reappointed she will be serving her first full term that will
expire on 6!30/2011.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION(S): Consider making one reappointment to the Board of Social Services.

Dear Mr. Jacobs,
The Board of Social Services (DSS) would like to recommend that the Board of County Commissioners
consider the reappointment of Ms. Pat.Garavaglia to the DSS Board.
Ms. Garavaglia has served on the Social Services Board since June of 2007, fulfilling an unexpired term.
She has attended over 90% of the meetings during that time. She is eligible for reappointment to the
Social Services Board under G.S. 10$A-4 and G.S. 108A-6.
Ms. Garavaglia is a Carrboro resident and business owner, and has brought a different level of insight to
the Board. She and her business, Balloons and Tunes, have been the recipients of several awards for
services to the community, including winning the Pauli Murray Human Relations Award in 2006. She
has been active in this community for more than twenty years and currently chairs the volunteer group
Friends of DSS. She also helps manage the holiday program for youth in Orange County foster care that
brings in thousands of dollars in gifts for our foster children.
We believe that Ms. Garavaglia is a valuable asset to the Social Services Board. Please consider her for
reappointment. Thank you.
