HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation proclaiming the month of March 2015 as "Women's History Month" )9F ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH PROCLAMATION WHEREAS,the Orange County Human Relations Commission has diligently served the County of Orange since 1987,and is committed to promoting the equal treatment of all individuals; and WHEREAS,women of every race, ethnicity, class and faith have made historic contributions to the growth and strength of our County in countless ways, recorded and unrecorded; and WHEREAS, Orange County women have played and continue to play a critical role in the economic, cultural and social spheres of the life of the County; and WHEREAS,women of every race, ethnicity, class and faith served as early leaders in the forefront of every major progressive social change movement; and WHEREAS,women have been leaders in securing their own rights of suffrage and equal opportunity,and also in the abolitionist movement,the emancipation movement, the industrial labor movement,the civil rights movement,and other movements, especially the peace movement,which create a more fair and just society for all; and WHEREAS, despite these contributions,the role of women in history consistently has been overlooked and undervalued in the literature,teaching and study of American history; and WHEREAS,women constitute a majority of the Orange County labor force working inside and outside of the home; and WHEREAS,currently,women receive unequal pay for equal work; NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of Orange County, North Carolina does hereby proclaim March 2015 as "WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH" in Orange County,and challenges County residents to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities.
