RESOLUTION
REQUESTING TRANSIT SERVICE TO THE
COUNTY'S PROPERTY ON HOMESTEAD ROAD
WHEREAS, the County plans to construct a building on Homestead Road from which to provide
human services for the Citizens of Southern Orange County;and
WHEREAS, the bus stop closest to the site of the proposed Southern Human Services Building is
presently on Airport Road;and
WHEREAS, it is clear to the County Commissioners that citizens of Chapel Hill and Carrboro using
public transit service should not be required to walk a significant distance from the bus
stop to the Southern Human Services facility;and
WHEREAS, the County will provide shuttle service from the closest bus stop to the Southern Human
Services facility;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the County Commissioners request that the Town Council
consider the prospects of extending bus service to Homestead Road; and we further suggest to the
Town Council that the Town Manager work with the County Manager during the approximately two-
year construction period of the Southern Human Services Building to establish the most acceptable
mix of Town Transit/County shuttle service for the facility.
