PURPOSE: To receive a report on recent Triangle J Council of
Governments (TJCOG) projects benefiting Orange County.
BACKGROUND: Kimberly Brewer of TJCOG staff will be present and
will highlight the projects as included in the
attachment.
RECOMMENDATION: Receive as information.

Examples of Triangle J Projects for Orange County 7193- 3/94
Organized and managed the regional Cable T.V.Consortlum,which Orange County joined.
Mutual Aid Compact for Water supply Emergencies:Triangle J administered the amendment and
extension of this compact signed by thirty local governments in the region(including Orange County)
and drafted a map of existing and potential Interconnections needed to fully Implement the compact
agreement.
Triangle Area Wafer Supply Monitoring Project(12 local governments participating including Orange
County). Under contract, Triangle J managed the monitoring of 34 sties throughout the region,inctud-
Ing 6 styes in Orange County. The Project Steering Committee recently completed the Project's
Progress Report for 1992.93.
Maintained unified.MgWal position on Intsrbesln trunsfers and successfully lobbled on Interbasin
Transfer Act(ratified 7/93). Marry local governments in the region,Including those in Orange County,
depend now and will depend In the future on interbasin transfers.
Staffed the Falls Labe Working Group. Facilitated development and unanimous adoption of a scope
of work for the Upper Neuse Watershed Study.This leveraged$150,000 from the State for the study.
A cost-effectiveress study of and reoommendations for regional collection and disposal of Household
Hazardous Waste for Chatham,Durham, Orange,and Wake County.
A report on ways to reduce and recycle construction and demolition debris In Chatham,Orange,
Lee,and Durham Counties.
With a grant from the Arnerican Plastics Council, Triangle J coordinated a regional study of residen•
tisl recycling to inc resae recycling program performance throughout the region.
Staffed the Greater Triangle Regional Council,a new partnership of pubic,private,university,and
foundation officials.
Geographic hlformstlon System Services. Developed two new services:Triangle PIGS(Profiles of
Industrial and Commerdal Sites)and Targeted Census Profile which allows us to quickly answer
growth and development questions for specific geographic areas within the Greater Triangle. In addl-
Von,Triangle J provided GIS Data and Technical Assistance to the Triangle Transit Authority's Fixed
Guideway Study and has entered Irno GIS service discussions with RDRA.
Triangle J entered Into iM regional GIS database the following information for all of Orange County:
existing and planned water and sewer lines;existing schools;detailed population. housing, and employ-
ment census daft for census block groups and tracts;environmental data;and major commercial
properties.
Managed the region's Foreign Trade Zone,currently saving millions for industrles in the region.
Provided strategic planning assistance for Ennergency Medical Services in Orange County.
Elderly ctre services,including elder abuse education.
