BACKGROUND: This year, National Historic Preservation Week will be observed May 8 - 14. The theme chosen by the National Trust for Historic Preservation is "It's your memory. It's our history. It's worth saving. " A copy of the proclamation is attached. As of the agenda deadline, the Orange County Historic Preservation Commission was considering additional activities in honor of Preservation Week such as a news article/press release and sponsoring a display at Ayr Mount, a National Register property. RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends approval of the procla- mation for National Historic Preservation Week 1994 . M A Y B - 1 4 1 9 9 4 PROCLAMATION OF THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION WEEK WHEREAS, historic preservation enriches the lives of all people by providing a greater understanding of American heritage, and WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation,from rural to urban areas, neighborhoods to business districts; and WHEREAS, Orange County is committed to preserving its historic cultural resources for its citizens and future generations; and WHEREAS, "It's your memory. It's our history. It's worth saving. " is the theme for National Historic Preservation Week 1994, cosponsored by the Orange County Historic Preservation Commission and the National Trust for Historic Preservation; NOW, THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Commissioners does hereby proclaim May 8 - 14, 1994, as National Historic Preservation Week in celebration of the cultural heritage of Orange County and hereby urges all citizens to support historic preservation efforts.
