PURPOSE:
To present checks to local artists and arts organizations receiving Fall2014

Orange County Arts Grants, and to acknowledge the 30Anniversary of the Orange County
Arts Commission, established unanimously by Resolution of the Board of County
Commissioners on February 4, 1985.
BACKGROUND:
The Orange County Arts Commission awards grants for art programs to local
artists, schoolsand nonprofitorganizations from fundsreceived from the state and Orange
County government for this purpose. These funds are distributed for arts projectsin all arts
disciplines. Each grant recipient must match the granted amount at least dollar for dollarin
order to receive funding.

The Orange County Arts Commission is celebrating its 30Anniversary, having been
established by the Orange County Board of Commissioners on February 4, 1985. The Arts
Commission thanks the members of the 1985 Board of Commissioners, all successive Board
members and Orange County residents for their support in helping to strengthenthe artistic and
cultural development of Orange County over the past 30 years, and for many years to come.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
A total of $26,926will be awardedin this cycle. This amountis awarded
from the FY2014-15 Orange County funds($28,750) already approved by the BOCC for this
purpose. (In the Spring 2014 arts grant cycle, $1,750in County funds was awarded to individual
artists, and $75in County funds was used to help support the Piedmont Laureate Program, a
program of the Orange County ArtsCommission.)
RECOMMENDATION(S):
The Manager recommends that the Board acknowledge the local
recipients of the awards during the February 3, 2015 meeting with the presentation of checks by
the Board Chair.
