Orange County has recently completed a county-wide inventory of historic architecture and is currently surveying archaeological sites in the unincorporated portions of the county. The Historic Preservation Commission now seeks to publish the results of the inventory and include historic properties surveyed in the Towns of Chapel Hill' Cerrboro, Hillsborough, and Mebane' The publication will feature a description of the history of the county, chapters on architecture and archae- ology with individual entries for properties and sites listed during the survey. Text will be supplemented with black and white photographs and stories of the people associated with the sites. Publication of the inventory will produce o principal educational tool to inform Orange County residents and visitors of the County's cultural roaourcea. Historic and archaeological resources are irreplaceable if destroyed. Orange County is committed to identify and protect them by increasing the awareness of property owners, developers, and the general public.
