BACKGROUND: On December 21, 1993 , the Board of County Commissioners approved one 30 hour per week ( . 75 Full Time Equivalent) position for the Department crn Aging. This position, Facility Manager of the Chapel Hill Senior Center, will be responsible for the day-to-day management of this center. The total cost for this fiscal year for this position is $13, 669, of which $9, 669 is from existing budgeted funds, and $4, 000 from previously unbudgeted revenues from center leases and class fees . This budget amendment will budget the additional funds necessary to support this position (see Block #1 on page 2 of this abstract . ) On November 16, 1993 , the Board of County Commissioners approved one full time equivalent position (40 hours per week) for the Animal Control Division of the Health Department . This position, an Animal Control Officer, will allow the department to meet the increasing demands for 911 Emergency calls and protective and enforcement services. The total six month cost, through June 30, 1994, is $38, 334, including a vehicle. The vehicle cost ($18, 200) is included in the Equipment Replacement Project budget in a reserve account . Funding for the position and associated operating costs will come from increased fees from sterile and unsterile dogs and cats. The new fee schedule, approved by the Commissioners and effective January 1, 1994, is shown in Section 2 on the attached budget amendment . This budget amendment (see block #2 on page 2 of this abstract)will budget the additional $21, 000 in revenue to support this position. Section 2 of the proposed budget amendment amends the budget ordinance to include the new animal licensing fee schedule as adopted by the Board of Commissioners . RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board of County Commissioners adopt the proposed budget amendment . General Fund Source: Property Taxes $37,611,679 $21,000 $37,632,679 Appropriation: Human Services $15,278,701 $21,000 $15,299,701 To budget new animal licensing fees to support 1.00 FTE Animal Control Officer Budget Amendment#6 3 The following section will be an addition to the 1993-94 budget ordinance : Section X. Animal License. A license costing $5 . 00 is required for sterile dogs and cats and $10 . 00 for unsterile dogs and cats . Guide/assistance dogs and animal owners over 62 years of age whose animals have been spayed or neutered are exempt from this fee .
