PURPOSE: To consider a proposed change in the Commission for Women by-laws.
BACKGROUND: The proposed change in the Commission for Women by-laws concerns Article III,
Membership, Section 3,Distribution. The current by-laws state, "Distribution of Commission members
shall be as follows: at least five members shall reside in Chapel Hill Township; at least three in
Hillsborough Township; at least five from Bingham,Eno,Little River, Cheeks, or Cedar Grove
Townships. The remaining two shall reside in any township in Orange County." The Commission
believes that the current by-laws are too restrictive regarding township representation. This has allowed
some Board positions to remain vacant for a significant length of time,while preventing some well-
qualified applicants from being considered for membership. The proposed change will ensure
representation from both ends of the County,while providing necessary flexibility.
RECOMMENDATION(S): As the Board decides.
