ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING JAKI SHELTON GREEN,
A NORTH CAROLINA LITERARY HALL OF FAME
INDUCTEE FROM ORANGE COUNTY
WHEREAS, the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame celebrates and promotes the rich literary
heritage of North Carolina by commemorating its leading authors and encouraging the
continued flourishing of great literature; and
WHEREAS, the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame was established under the leadership of Sam
Ragan, Poet Laureate and Southern Pines newspaper editor; and
WHEREAS, the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame was authorized by a Joint Resolution of the
North Carolina General Assembly in July 1993, and formally established in May 1996
by a grant from the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources to the North
Carolina Writers'Network; and
WHEREAS, the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame has recognized Jaki Shelton Green, who has
significant ties to Orange County; and
WHEREAS, Orange County takes pride in its historic role as a center of art and learning, and is proud
to celebrate County residents as exemplars of the literary community whose words
enrich our lives;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners does hereby
recognize and congratulate Jaki Shelton Green as an inductee into the North Carolina
Literary Hall of Fame, and expresses its appreciation of her and her literary works as
cultural assets representing Orange County.
