USING NCDOT RAIL INDUSTRIAL ACCESS FUNDS FOR THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF AN INDUSTRIAL FACILITY IN ORANGE COUNTY
WHEREAS, Orange County supports business and industrial development in appropriately
zoned locations throughout the County; and
WHEREAS, Builders' Supply and Lumber proposes to develop a 21.5 acre tract of land along E.
Washington Street in Mebane's ETJ as a manufacturing and distribution facility that will employ
approximately 100 people and invest at least $5,000,000 in buildings, land, and equipment; and
WHEREAS, on June 2, 1995, the NC Dept of Transportation Board approved a request for a
maximum of$80,587.50 of Rail Industrial Access Funds to pay for up to 50% of Builders' Supply
and Lumber's projected expense for serving their Mebane site with a rail spur; and
WHEREAS, Builders' Supply and Lumber will pay the remaining portion(50%) of this rail
access project costs to serve their site; and
WHEREAS, Orange County will not be responsible for any costs associated with providing rail
to this proposed site for Builders' Supply and Lumber.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners
support this project in principle, and authorize Builders' Supply and Lumber Company,
Incorporated to enter into a contract with the NC Department of Transportation and execute all
agreements and contracts with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Rail Division.
