PURPOSE: To consider approval of changes to the Orange County Landfill
tipping fee schedule for FY 1995-96.
BACKGROUND: The Orange County Landfill is administered by the Town of
Chapel Hill under provisions of the 1972 Landfill Agreement between
Orange County and the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro. The agreement
requires that all three parties must approve changes to the tipping fee
schedule.
The Landfill Owners' Group has recommended to the governing bodies of
the three jurisdictions that 1995-96 tipping fees be established as
follows:
Current Recommended
Waste Category Fee Fee Increase
Mixed solid waste $25/ton $31/ton $6/ton
Ash $16/ton $17/ton $1/ton
Brush/clean wood waste $5/ton $10/ton $5/ton
The proposed tipping fee changes can be accommodated within the
County's 1995-96 Public Works budget as approved by the Board of
Commissioners during the June 19 budget worksession.
RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board approve 1995-
96 tipping fees of $31/ton for mixed solid waste, $17/ton for ash, and
$10/ton for brush/clean wood waste.
