INFORMATION CONTACT:

PURPOSE: To consider appointing one volunteer to the Durham Technical Community
College Board of Trustees.
BACKGROUND: At its regular meeting on April 24, 2007 the Durham Technical Community
College Board of Trustees adopted the attached resolution for joint property ownership between
the DTCC Board of Trustees and the Orange County Board of Commissioners. At that time,
the Orange County Board of Commissioners had been invited to appoint up to two members to
the DTCC Board of Trustees. Appointments are for four-year terms beginning July 1, 2007. No
more than one trustee can be a BOCC member.-
The Board of County Commissioners appointed Commissioner Moses Carey to the DTCC
Board of Trustees on June 12, 2007. However, Commissioner Carey has submitted his
resignation, dated January 29, 2008 to the Clerk's office asking that the Board of
Commissioners accept his resignation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION(S): Consider making one appointment to the DTCC Board of Trustees.

To All;
With this email, I am resigning from the Board of Trustees of Durham Technical Community College due to time
constraints and a desire that Durham Tech. gets the attention it needs during its time of transition with new
leadership. I am asking the Chair and Clerk to place this item on the agenda for the Board to select a
replacement at our next meeting. I am also asking the Board to consider former commissioner Steve Halkiotis for
this appointment since he exhibited an interest and was involved in the planning and decision making to get us to
this point.

The Durham Technical Community.College Board of Trustees; at its regular meeting on April 24, adopted
the attached resolution for joint property ownership between the DTCC Board of Trustees and the Orange
County Board of Commissioners. Now that both boards have adopted the. resolution, and in accordance
with Chapter 115D-12 of the General Statutes of North Carolina, we invite the Orange County Board of
Commissioners to appoint two members to the DTCC Board of Trustees for four-year terms beginning
July 1, 2007. According to Chapter 115D-12, no more than one trustee may be a member of a board of
county commissioners.
Please submit the names, addresses and biographical information for your appointees to Dr. Wynn, and he
will ensure that they receive appropriate background information and meeting schedule.
We look forward to a closer working relationship with the commissioners and residents of Orange
County.

RESOLUTION
BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
DURHAM TECBMCAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE
In furtherance of prior actions by the Trustees of Durham Technical Community College
(the "Trustees") to establish a satellite campus of Durham Technical Community College
in Orange County, North Carolina, The Trustees adopt the following resolutions:
RESOLVED that the Trustees accept the terms and conditions of that certain North
Carolina Special Warranty Deed prepared and issued by the Orange County Board of
Commissioners in the form attached hereto.
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Trustees shall accept delivery of a duly executed
original of that Special Warranty Deed, in the form attached hereto, from representatives
of Orange County.
FURTHER RESOLVED that the Trustees

property in Orange County since 1971, and have lived in Hillsborough since 2000. Since
my residency has changed, so does my need to be reappointed by another official body.
My current appointment expires in July, 2008. 1 realize that the BOCC needs to have
close contact with the Durham Tech Board of Trustees and I pledge to fulfill that promise
if appointed. My heart and many hours of volunteer work on Orange County boards and
committees serve as testimony to my sincere desire to work dilgently on your behalf. As
Durham Technical Community College moves into the future with a new president and a
new campus in Orange County, I would like to provide leadership in making an excellent
