BACKGROUND: Bob Nutter moved to North Carolina and started a family farm, in 1963. The Maple View Milk Company, started by the Nutters in 1996, was one of the first contemporary farm-to-consumer milk bottling businesses in North Carolina. Maple View Ice Cream has received national recognition. The Nutter family has played an active role in improving the quality of life in Orange County as a pioneer for land conservation and through strong support for public education. Bob Nutter was recently honored by the Orange-Durham Cattlemen's Association with its Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in the North Carolina cattle industry. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the attached resolution recognizing Bob Nutter for outstanding service to the agricultural community and the people of Orange County. 2 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING BOB NUTTER WHEREAS, Robert `Bob" Nutter is a fifth generation farmer; and, WHEREAS, the Nutters moved from Maine to North Carolina in 1963 to start a farm in Orange County; and, WHEREAS, Maple View Milk Company, started by the Nutters in 1996, was one of the first contemporary farm-to-consumer milk bottling businesses in North Carolina; and, WHEREAS, Maple View Ice Cream is the pride of North Carolina and has received national recognition; and, WHEREAS, the Nutter family, led by Bob Nutter, has served an important role in environmental preservation as a pioneer for land conservation; and, WHEREAS, the Nutter family has provided strong support for public education including the "Dictionary Program" which has provided dictionaries to third- graders in the Orange County Schools since 2004; and, WHEREAS, Bob Nutter has been honored by the Orange-Durham Cattlemen's Association with its Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in the North Carolina cattle industry; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that, the Orange County Board of Commissioners recognizes Bob Nutter for his outstanding service to the people of Orange County, innovation in farming techniques, and commitment to the agricultural community here and across the State of North Carolina.
