At the Board's October 7, 2014 regular meeting, petitions were brought forth which were reviewed by
the Chair /Vice Chair /Manager Agenda team. The petitions and responses are listed below:
1) Review and consider a request by residents that the Board conduct a public hearing to hear input from
the public regarding fluoride being added into water supplies.
Response: It was deemed this was not within the County's purview. County is not a water provider,
and these concerns are more appropriately directed to those entities that treat and supply drinking
water.
2) Review and consider a request by Commissioner Price that the Board formally recognize Jackie
Shelton Greene.
Response: The Chair will send a letter of recognition to Ms. Jackie Shelton Greene.
3) Review and consider a request by Commissioner Price that the Board formally recognize the
volunteer firefighters in the County.
Response: Recognition of individuals designated by each fire department to be incorporated
into annual fire chief's meeting each year in October.
4) Review and consider a request by Commissioner Rich that the Board ask the Chair to write a
letter to United Health Care asking it to stop supporting ALEC.
Response: The Chair will send a letter to United Healthcare in response to this request.
5) Review and consider request by Commissioner Rich that the County pursue other health
insurance administrators that do not support ALEC as part of the June 2015 renewal.
Response: Staff is currently pursuing Request for Proposals for Broker of Record; referred to
County Attorney.
6) Review and consider request to research and share info with BOCC about any current County
policy relative to 10% local food provisions applicable to caterers.
Response: Staff is reviewing and will bring back information to the Board.
7) Review and consider request by Commissioner Jacobs that the County Attorney re- examine
ways the County can condition contracts so that employers are required to pay a living
wage.
Response: Manager and Attorney to review.
8) Review and consider a request by Commissioner Jacobs for the County to consider what it
is doing to assist people who are losing Section 8 housing vouchers /potential use of Social
Justice Fund /etc.
Response: Manager and staff are reviewing options.
This letter will be provided as an Information Item on the October 21, 2014 agenda for public
information.
