At the Board's September 4, 2014 regular meeting, petitions were brought forth which were reviewed by the
Chair/Vice Chair /Manager Agenda team. The petitions and responses are listed below:
1) Review and consider a public request that the County pursue efforts to help eliminate fluoride from drinking
water.
Response: This item will be referred to the Board of Health for information and recommendations.
2) Review and consider a request by Commissioner Price that the County convene a group of community residents,
veterans service office staff, veterans' representatives from all service branches, businesses, etc. to consider
ways the community can recognize those who have served the country in the military
Response: County Manager, DSS Director and Veterans Affairs Officer will develop a list of existing events and
locations recognizing veterans as an initial step.
3) Review and consider a request by Commissioner Dorosin that the Chair and Vice Chair reach out to
Chapel Hill and Carrboro and share new information and restate commitment regarding the County
moving forward on Rogers Road improvements.
Response: This item has been completed- the BOCC Chair has communicated with Chapel Hill and
Carrboro mayors and the County Manager has communicated with the Town managers.
4) Review and consider a request from by Commissioner Dorosin that the Chair, Vice Chair and Manager
follow up on his previous petition regarding a potential Gun Buy -Back program for the County.
Response: The Chair will consult with Sheriff -elect Blackwood regarding potential gun buy -back program,
with potential program to occur after new Sheriff takes office; County Manager to also confer with County
Attorney.
5) Review and consider a request by Commissioner Jacobs that staff follow -up with the NC Solar Center /NC
Clean Energy Technology Center concerning a potential analysis of Orange County facilities that could be
served by solar power.
Response: Staff to follow -up with NC Solar Center /NC Clean Energy Technology Center and also talk
with NextClimate about Solarize efforts and provide info to the BOCC.
6) Review and consider request by Commissioner Dorosin to pursue conversation with the ABC Board
members and staff regarding the County receiving more money based on increased ABC sales, with
possible additional funds being directed to domestic violence needs.
Response: County Manager to research and Compass Center to be encouraged to contact ABC Board
directly.
This letter will be provided as an Information Item on the September 16, 2014 agenda for public
information.
