At the May 8, 2008 CFW meeting, motion was made to recommend reappointment of ANTDNIA BLIADAINPE BARBDSA, JENNIFER FRYE, and I~ASHIDA FEARRINGTDN the members whose terms would expire on June 30, 2008. Ms. Sanders is not eligible for reappointment, because she has served two consecutive terms on the CFW. Ms. Perkins is not eligible for reappointment based on her attendance record during the past year. As required, I have attached attendance records for all CFW members whose terms will expire on June 30, 2008. ANTDNIA GNADAl.l1PE BARBD3A, JENNIFER FRYE, and RASHIDA FEARRINGTDN voiced an interest in being reappointed. If additional information is required, please do not hesitate to let me know. Your assistance with this matter is appreciated. FP/jag. atttaclunent 8 MEMORANDUM TO: ANGELA THOMPSON-ROCKETT CC: DONNA BAKER FROM: JENNIFER GALASSI DATE: JUNE 16, 2008 RE: REAPPOINTMENT OF THELMA PERKINS Thelma Perkins term of membership is set to expire on June 30, 2008. The Commission for Woinen would lilce Ms. Perkins to continue to serve as a member. Due to a misunderstanding, Ms. Perkins, perhaps as a result of Ms. Perlcins's advanced age (she is 92 years old), believed that she had received a leave of absence from the Commission for a period of one year. The leave of absence, however, was for a period of six months. Despite communicating this fact to Ms. Perkns, the circumstances that conflicted with her ability to atterid Commission meetings continued until last month and prohibited her from attending Commission meetings. Ms. Perkns has expressed her desire to continue to serve as a member of the Commission for Women. Ms. Perkns further stated her ability to attend future meetings of the Commission. The Commission for Wornen would benefit greatly from her ability to serve a second term and therefore, respectfully requests that she be allowed to do so. The work of both the commission for women and the human relations commission are especially important to making Orange County a good place for everyone to live. For the past two months I have been working with the commission for women on planning the Orange County Women's Agenda Assembly and I have enjoyed the experience. Cutler Andrews, a current commission member and friend, heard about my work on the agenda assembly and suggested that I join the commission for women. It is extremely important important for young people like me to be involved at the local level, where a citizen can have the greatest impact. My work and volunteer experiences, my commitment to social justice and equality and my interest in local government and civic engagement would significantly benefit the work of either of the commissions for which I am applying. I appreciate the opportuntity to volunteer for Orange County and look forward to hearing from someone soon..
