HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda - 11-14-2006-5kORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT Meeting Date: November 14, 2006 Action Agend~ Item No. SUBJECT: Confirmation of Plans to Relocate Orange County Emergency Management Department to 510 Meadowlands Drive Facility DEPARTMENT: Manager/Purchasing/ PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No Emergency Management ATTACHMENT(S): None INFORMATION CONTACT: Rod Visser, 919-245-2308 Pam Jones, 919-245-2650 Kent McKenzie, 919-644-3030 PURPOSE: To formally approve plans to relocate the Orange County Emergency Management (OCEM) Department from its present location at 1914 New Hope Church Road to the County-owned facility in the Meadowlands Business Park at 510 Meadowlands Drive. BACKGROUND: At the November 9, 2006 work session, the Board received a presentation regarding proposed space allocations for County departments in current and planned County facilities. Staff explained the plans to relocate OCEM staff, offices, and operations in their totality from New Hope Church.Road to 510 Meadowlands Drive. A number of projects -including installation of new 9-1-1 communications consoles, installation of a new emergency backup generator, and HVAC replacements -have been on hold at New Hope Church Road pending the possible relocation of some or all of the Emergency Management operations. The consoles and generator (and their installation) are funded to a large degree by federal grant funds, some of which have expenditure deadlines as soon as March 2007.. Staff request that the Board formally approve the relocation of the Department so plans can begin immediately to install the new equipment afi the new facility. As directed by the Board at the November 9 work session, staff will bring back as soon as possible implementation timelines for other high priority facilities for the Board's formal approval. FINANCIAL IMPACT: As noted in the Space Needs Update presented on November 9, there is $550,000 earmarked for upfitting the 510 Meadowlands Drive facility to accommodate the relocation of the Emergency Management Department. The Board has previously approved capital project ordinances that provided the funding authorizations for the acquisition and installation of the consoles, generator, and related equipment. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager.recommends that the Board approve the relocation of the Orange County Emergency Management Department to the facility at 510 Meadowlands Drive.
