PURPOSE: To consider making appointments to the Board on Aging.
BACKGROUND: The Aging Board would like to recommend Peggy Cohn and Diane Henderson for
appointment to the Advisory Board on Aging. If appointed, both would be serving first full terms, which
will end 6/30!2009.

Subject: Board Appointment
The Orange County Advisory Board on Aging reviewed all applicants for the Aging
Board's At-Large position #8 vacated at the end of the second term of Ms Mariah
McPherson. At the September 13th meeting of the Board, the Board approved
recommending Dr. Peggy Cohn to fill the position # 8 vacancy that will expire on June
30, 2009.
Dr. Cohn is a resident of #10 Bayswater Place, Chapel Hill and is presently retired from
several years as a Community Health Nursing educator at UNC and Penn State. She
served as University Director of Family Ties, Geriatric Care Management at State
College in Pennsylvania. Dr. Cohn also volunteered with Nursing Home visitation non-
profitBoards in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Cohn presently serves on the O.C. Adult Care Home Community Advisory
Committee. With her experience in Geriatric Care Management, Nursing Home
visitations, and working with non-profit Boards, she would be an asset to the Advisory
Board on Aging and the older population of Orange County.

The Orange County Advisory Board on Aging reviewed all applicants for the Aging

Council. At the September 13th meeting of the Board, the Board approved
recommending Ms Diane Henderson to fill the position #9 vacancy that will expire on
June 30, 2009.
Ms Henderson is a resident of 750 Weaver Dairy Road, Apt. 132, in Chapel Hill and is
presently retired from many years working in computer systems research and applications
in Virginia. She retired to the Outer Banks in 1986 and has served as a Member of the
Arlington County Virginia School Board and Town Council of Southern Shores, NC.
Ms Henderson has many years of volunteer service with many organizations including
the League of Women Voters of Arlington, VA, as one of the founders and a past
president of the League of Dare County, member of the League of NC State Board, and
awarded the Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Certificate in 1990. Since moving to
Chapel Hill in 1998 she has served on the Residents Council of Carol Woods Residents
Association as Treasurer and President, and as President of the Association of Carol
Woods Residents, Inc. as well as serving on various committees.
Ms Henderson's interest and experience in public service provide skills and ideas that are
useful in working on aging issues. In Dare County she participated in the State's League
of Women Voters eldercare study. Over the past seven years she has experienced the
background and insight into the issues facing the County and the State with respect to an
increasing population of older adults..
Ms Henderson would be a tremendous asset to the Advisory Board and the citizens of
Orange County.
