SUBJECT: Recognition of Sarah Craige for Mural at Southern Human
Services Center

PURPOSE: To recognize and thank Sarah Craige for her commissioned piece "Tree of Life" at
SHSC. Her file mural was commissioned by the Orange County Arts Commission and recently
installed. A reception was held at the SHSC on September 19, 2006.
BACKGROUND: At the request of Chair Barry Jacobs, Orange County artist Sarah Craige has
been asked to attend this meeting, along with Roosevelt and John Sanford, the masons who
assisted her in the installation of this public art project.
She has been asked to bring photos of her process and illustrations of her design.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no current financial impact on Orange County, as the artist has
already been paid $10,000 for this project.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board acknowledge Sarah
Craige, along with Roosevelt Sanford and John Sanford during the October 17, 2006 meeting.
