PURPOSE: To consider a proclamation recognizing the Chapel Hill High School Fencing Team
for winning the 2014 State Championship.
BACKGROUND: On February 8, 2014 Chapel Hill High School's Fencing Team captured the
North Carolina Fencing League's State Fencing Championship.
Under the guidance of Coach Doug Guild, Chapel Hill High School's Fencing Team earned its
second state title, also winning the trophy in 2012.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the attached
proclamation recognizing the Chapel Hill High School Fencing Team for winning the 2014 State
Championship and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation on behalf of the Board.

PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON
CHAPEL HILL HIGH SCHOOL'S FENCING TEAM WINNING THE
2014 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEREAS, on February 8, 2014 Chapel Hill High School's Fencing Team captured the North
Carolina Fencing League's State Fencing Championship; and
WHEREAS, under the guidance of Coach Doug Guild, Chapel Hill High School's Fencing
Team earned its second state title, also winning the trophy in 2012; and
WHEREAS, Nikhil Shankar, Nathaniel Montano, Iaan Hufford, Ariel Hoerter and Natalie
Bulick- Sullivan contributed to winning the State Championship with the support of
team members Joel Anil, Jesse Chen, Hagan Connell, Johnny Huang, Alex
Obringer, Jack Obringer, Brody Rich - Voorhees and Giovanni Silva; and
WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the Tigers brought
honor upon themselves, Chapel Hill High School, the Chapel Hill / Carrboro
School District and Orange County;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners
expresses its sincere appreciation and respect for the Chapel Hill High School
Fencing Team, for the Tigers' outstanding achievement, and their inspiration to
youth across North Carolina through their dedication, teamwork, and athletic
prowess.
