HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 19380722 1N Minutes of the Board of Commissioners of Orange County, Thursday Night July-22-I938 The Board met in adjourned session at 7.30., meet.ing. oalled to..-order by J,H Hanner,Chair man, present Commissicnnrs J.H Hanner,Carl T Durham and S.A Nathan G.VY R&y,Orange C aunty Tax Collector submitted his final report on the 1936 axes, as follows,to-wit: 1 Unpaid Tax receipts received from Sheriff.S.T Latta Jr July-5-1937— -$26.67I.29 additions----- afterlist $!12:10 Penalties 46IO2 land Sales Cost 49.50 623.32 Total Charge, ( 9'27.294.6I Decuctionef Releases 66:77 I( Land Sales $13.296.3I 13.363.08 Net Charge $j3.93I.53 Payments i $10.650.3I Uncollected 81.22— Less partial payments 316.52 Net uncollected $ 2.964.70, ' On motion of Commissioner Dukham,seconded by Commissioner Nathan, and unanimously passed,it: is hereby ordered that the foregoing settlement of I936 tax levy* as presented by G 'N.Ray,Tax Collector, and duly audited by K.W.Parham,C.P.A.,showing net unc©iledted balance on said levy of $2.964.70 be approved and accepted. It is further ordered that that the remaining uncollected amount be carried to the insolvent list and efforts be made to collect.._;same, together with other delinquent taxes, ltessrs.O.L Thomas,F,o Bowman and YarLall Cates members of the County i Board of 'Elections appeared before the Board,with the information that the Board of Elections had unanimously called an election , .on the -question,. -of A B.C.Stores in Orange County.Mr.J.TiJohnston asked I that the Board of Commissioners pass a resolution approving this or- der,of the Board of Eleetions,in order that the might not be delayed by injuaction.Yx.O.L.Thomas was recognized Athat the unanimous vote of his Board, in favor of the election did not mean,that the in-1 dividual members were either for,or against Liquor stores,but that-- I their vote was prompted by a petition w2 xAV4x signed by 8I2 -Votes of-Orange Count�t,when 771 signatures w cold make the required I5%. Mr.O.S Robertson,that it was not his intention to speak in behalf 64Y against liquor stores,but that he was of the opinion that the people of the County should be allowed to vote on the question, and tie.t he would be glad to see the Board of Commissioners grant Mr.Johnstons re-­ quest.Ur.B.D Sawyer was recognized and Voiced the same opinion as had been expressed by Mr•Robertson. 1 Mr.P.0 Collins was recognized and stated that he favored the electio being called.0ther Citizens present in favor of this measure ,Messrs.H.S,.Cates,Tom Vaughan and J.L Lockhart. �fter a lengthy consideration,the Board voiced the unanimous opinion; ,it did not oppose a liquor election being held,upon the petition of -- the number of Voters required by law,but it refused to grant Mr.John- stons request,to endorse officially the action of the Board of Electi+s in calling a vote on the question of A.B.C.Stores, i There beift no further business on motion adjourned to meet at Call or at the next regular meeting on August 1-I938 J.H,Hanner G.M7,Ray Chairman Clerk Pro-tern i 1
