September 5th minutes continued
Upon motion of Commissioner Bennett, seconded by Commissioner Jones, and unanimously adopted
the County Accountant and the Sheriff were directed to proceed with the securing of-a direct
telephone line to Chapel Hill, with the exception that the Welfare Department would be willing to
participate in the sharing of the expense and the use of such a line.
Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Jones, and unanimously adopted the
Count,
,r Accountant was authorized to pay to each Commissioner who attended the Commissioners'
Convention in Asheville their expenses which included registration fee, board and mileage. �(

September 25, 1961 n
The Orange County Board of Commissioners met on Monday, September 25, 1961, in special
Ij session with the representatives of the State Highway Commission.
Members present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey Bennett, Clarence D. Jones,
Donald McDade and Henry Walker.
i ��} Members absent: None

jThe purpose of this meeting was to receive the Secondary Road Plan for Orange County for the
fiscal year of 1961-1962.
Jim XacLarrroc, Division Highway Commissioner, T. A. Burton, Division EnFineer, and other
�i personnel from the State High:-ray Commission were present and discussed the proposed plan in
detail with the Commissioners.

In summary the plan provided for the expenditure of 1253,211.93 on 4.04 miles of paving,
9.75 miles of stabilization and 1,.45 miles of road alligment. �4

Mr. MacLamroc noted that additional funds were expected from the State and if such funds �?
�! were received additions to the proposed program would be made.
I Representatives Iron Damascus Church and Union Grove Methodist Church were present to
discuss ;kith the representatives from the State Highway Commission the possibility of road I(
improvements for their resoective areas. #
Commissioner Jones moved that the secondary road plan as submitted by the State Highway
Commission for the fiscal year 1961-1962 be approved.
Commissioner McDade gave a second to this motion.

Chairman Stanford called for a vote and their were 5 ayes and 0 noes. Chairman Stanford
than declared the motion passed.
