I studied Political Science, US History and completed a semester Urban Studies program in Chicago that gave the opportunity to meet with different constituents and hear their unique concerns. I went on to complete a Masters in African American History at the University of Illinois-Chicago. I am particularly interested in protecting the most vulnerable in our communities and creating service environments that welcome those who may have intersecting identities such as gender variance and poverty, or disability and ethnic minority status. Affordable Housing Advisory Board I work at DSS and see the pressing need for safe shelter options for our community s most vulnerable and disenfranchised. During a semester Urban Studies program in Chicago I interned at a community organization that brought the city s leaders together with other stakeholders to shape neighborhood development in a way that included everyone--mixed use, SROs, affordable housing.
