Purpose: To consider amending the Orange County Classification and
Pay Plan by changing the class title of the class of Computer
Operator/Programmer at salary grade 65 to Microcomputer
Support Specialist at the same salary grade.
Background: Currently, the Information Systems Department has a vacant
position of Computer Operator/Programmer. Prior to beginning
recruitment for the position, the Information Systems Director
has assessed the needs of the office, workload and functions of
the Computer Operator/Programmer position.
As a result of this review, the Information Systems Director has
identified the need to restructure the duties and responsibilities
of the Computer Operator/Programmer position to delete the
programming duties and change the primary focus to personal
computer support (hardware and operating system software).
Based on the review of the restructured duties, it is
recommended the position's class title be changed from
Computer Operator/Programmer to PC Support
Specialist/Computer Operator to reflect the shift in focus. The

class will remain at the current salary grade of grade 65 in the
Classification and Pay Plan.
Recommendation: The Manager recommends the Board amend the Classification
and Pay Plan by changing the class title of Computer
Operator/Programmer to PC Support Specialist/Computer
Operator.
