PURPOSE: To consider approving a bid for the renovation of the heating system at
the Central Recreation Building in Hillsborough.
BACKGROUND: The work covered by this bid in general replaces the condesate
return system in the Central Recreation Building. The boiler in the Whitted Building
will continue to be the source of steam heat. The existing condesate return piping
that is under the ground floor slab will be abandoned in place, but properly capped as
required. New fan coils units that have heating and cooling coils are to be installed in
Activity Area 1, however, the cooling coils are for future use. Restrooms will be served
by a new radiation unit which is to mounted at ceiling level. New steam duct coils
and reducting are to be completed throughout the rest of the building. This project is
funded in the current Capital Improvements Plan.
RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board award the bid
and approve the contract, contingent upon final review, to Warren-Hay Mechanical
Contractors, Inc. for Heating System Renovation work at the Central Recreation
Center for a sum of $38,500; and authorize the Chair to sign on behalf of the Board.
