HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-457 SW - Carton Council for Recycling Grant $ 3,000 Carton Council As August 13,2013 Mr.Blair Pollock, Solid Waste Planner Solid Waste Management Orange County PO Box 17177 Chapel Hill,NC 27516 Dear Mr.Pollock: The purpose of this letter is to confirm our mutual agreement concerning certain funds to be furnished by Carton Council of North America, Inc. (the "Carton Council") to Orange County, North Carolina (the "County") for use by the County to conduct promotional activities for carton recycling. Specifically, our agreement is as follows: 0 Within 30 days after the County's return to the Carton Council of a copy of this letter signed and dated by the County, the Carton Council will pay to the County the amount of $3,000 (the "Program Funds"). The Program Funds will be paid by wire transfer of funds to an account designated in writing by the County (or by other means mutually acceptable to the parties). • The County will use the Program Funds only for the purposes outlined in the attached grant program plan (Attachment A). Any use of the Carton Council's name or trademarks in connection with such activities shall be subject to the prior written agreement of the Carton Council. A copy of the developed materials must be provided to Carton Council prior to production for review. The County agrees to hold the Carton Council harmless from any third party claim arising out of the County's use of the Program Funds. Please confirm the County's agreement with the terms of this letter by arranging to have a copy of this letter signed and dated by the County and returned to the Carton Council at the following address: Carton Council of North America, Inc., c/o Resource Recycling Systems, 416 Longshore Drive,Ann Arbor,MI 48105 (Attn: Anna Collinson Lynott). SPA , F Carton Council Attachment A— Grant Program Plan Orange County Solid Waste Management Department—Carton Council Grant Plan Start Date: October 1,2013 Target End Date: December 31,2013 1.In-store promotions at Weaver Street Market(three locations): a. Pre-approved by Weaver Street Market, a$12 million annual grossing company with high name recognition,three stores and local leader in sustainability. Also at local Whole Foods in Chapel Hill. Their customers `know' that if they are shopping there,the store is carrying items that are as sustainable as possible including the packaging,but many do not yet know that all these cartons are recyclable, or how or if you have to remove the plastic caps, etc. In-store education presents a one-on-one opportunity to market the recyclability of cartons along with perhaps promoting products sold in cartons through a cooperative effort to give out promotional items or discount coupons for items sold in cartons. b. Train three current recycling assistants in all aspects of carton recycling(rate $12.50/hour) training: two and a half hours x three=—$100 c. Conduct in-store outreach at four stores twice each four hours $12.50 x 4 x 4 x 2=$400 d. Install shelf talkers to promote carton recycling at POS: $100 8 hours labor outreach and installation(est.)if shelf talkers exist(more if they must be developed) 8 x$12.50=$100 F is there a shelf talker yet or will there be one?Whole Foods locally said they'll use them. e. Similar in-store for other stores in region: Food Lion,Harris Teeter, est. $300($100/event) £ Write up results(by recycling assistant)4 hours=$50 Subtotal: $850 1. Advertising for carton promotions: a. Regional publication IndyWeek"Finder' their annual guide to the Triangle, $550. 25,000 copies printing in September, distributed Triangle-wide. b. Bus Poster on Chapel Hill Transit 80 posters $300 Subtotal: $1,275 2. On campus promotions at UNC Chapel Hill a. Four promotional tabling or other events 3 hours/each two people: $100 b. Promotional items/giveaways $100 e.g.juice boxes,or t-shirts c. Simultaneous advertising in Daily Tar Heel(daily circulation 20,000) to promote carton recycling events and the act in general : using their`business builder special$350 for four ads @ 2"x 4" plus spot color$75/ad =$650 d.
