PURPOSE: To indicate Orange County's willingness to continue
discussions on protecting our water resources.
BACKGROUND: At the June 6, 1994 County Commissioners meeting, the
Board indicated their intent to be a member of the Neuse River Basin
Association, Inc. Commissioner Willhoit was appointed as the designated
representative and Commissioner Halkiotis was appointed as the
designated alternate representative. This committee decided to delay
discussions until the Falls Lake Watershed Study was completed by the
Cadmus Group, Inc. This study was completed in January, 1996. A
request has been made for all jurisdictions to confirm their intent to
continue these important discussions on protecting water quality in the
Upper Neuse basin.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the attached Resolution of Intent to Participate
in the Upper Neuse River and authorize the Chair to sign on behalf of the
Board.
