PURPOSE: To consider approval of the purchase of a 2 ton diesel dump truck for Public Works.
BACKGROUND: Funds have been identified in the 1995-96 budget for the purchase of a 2 ton
diesel dump truck for Public Works. This is a functional replacement for a 1-ton truck currently
utilized by Public Works. The larger vehicle is necessary to safely transport the trailer and
equipment used by the Buildings and Grounds Division.
The truck and dump body will be purchased from State contracts currently in place. The 2 ton cab
and chassis bid was awarded by the State to Navistar International of Charlotte, North Carolina at
a cost of$29,259.00. The dump body bid was awarded to Godwin Manufacturing of Dunn, North
Carolina at a cost of$4,991.00.. The total cost for the truck and dump body will be $34,250.00.
RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board authorize the purchase of the 2
ton cab and chassis from Navistar International and the dump body from Godwin Manufacturing
at a cost of$29,259.00 and $4991.00 respectively.
