PURPOSE: To adopt a Resolution of Appreciation for Pat Dickinson to recognize her five years of
service on the Orange County Historic Preservation Commission.
BACKGROUND: This week,May 12-18, is National Historic Preservation Week which spotlights historic
preservation efforts on the local and national level. The Orange County Historic Preservation
Commission since its formation in 1991 has reached several milestones in establishing a
program of preserving the County's historic and archeological resources.
The UPC has obtained grant funding to complete inventories of cultural resources,have a
manuscript written so that Orange County's heritage may be published,and to produce the
Historic Preservation Element of the Comprehensive Plan.In addition,two Orange County
sites have been nominated to the National Register of Historic Places.The HPC is currently
working to propose a local historic landmarks program.
Pat Dickinson was appointed in 1991 as one of the original members of the Historic
Preservation Commission and actively served two terms. Her knowledge and experience in
historic preservation proved to be a valuable asset to the Commission in their work during
the inaugural years.
A copy of the resolution is attached.
RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends adoption of the Resolution of Appreciation for Pat
Dickinson.

RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION
for
PATRICIA S. DICKINSON
WHEREAS, Pat Dickinson was appointed as a charter member of the Orange County
Historic Preservation Commission on May 21, 1991; and
WHEREAS, Pat Dickinson faithfully served her fellow citizens of Orange County on
this volunteer commission which laid the foundation for the County's
program of preserving its historic and archaeological resources; and
WHEREAS, her knowledge and experience in historic preservation consistently
guided the Historic Preservation Commission in their efforts;
THEREFORE, the members of the Orange County Board of Commissioners do
hereby thank Pat Dickinson, upon her retirement from the Orange
County Historic Preservation Commission, for the service she
performed on their behalf.
ADOPTED this the 14th day of May, 1996.
