PURPOSE: To update the County Commissioners as to the activities of
the Senior Centers Development Plan Committee and to seek
Commissioner comment on the Interim Report of the Senior
Centers Development Plan before completing the planning
process .
BACKGROUND:
The Orange County Commissioners approved in May, 1994 the
establishment of a county wide Senior Centers Development
Plan Committee and a planning process. (Report-Appendix A)
The Committee' s charge was to prepare a long-range county
plan for developing senior citizens centers in to the 21st
Century. The thirteen member Committee was recruited in
the fall of 1994 and began its work in February, 1995 with
the review of past reports, current senior center operations
and demographic projections. After site visits to all senior
centers and community centers, the Committee held several
monthly meetings in the fall in order to develop its
primarily recommendations found in the attached Interim
Report.
Because of the importance of the Senior Centers Development
Plan, the Committee deliberately revised the timetable for
completing the planning process to May, 1996. The final
planning tasks schedule is as follows:

Task #7 - Present the Senior Centers Development Plan:
Interim Report to the Board of County Commissioners
for review, comment, and changes . Date- Jan. , 1996.
Task #8 - Hold public hearings at centers and other locations
by the SCDP Committee to receive comments on the
Plan. Date- Feb.-March, 1996.
Task #9 - Hold final SCDP Committee meeting to make necessary
changes in the Plan. Date- April, 1996.
Task #10- Present the final Plan to the Orange County
Advisory on Aging for review and comment.
Date- April, 1996.
Task #11- Present the Senior Centers Development Plan: 1996-
2000 to the Board of County Commissioners for final
review , changes and adoption. Date- May, 1996.
RECOMb ENDATION(S) : Receive as information and comment on completing
the planning process.
