HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES-1999-067 Resolution of Support for Flood Relief to Edgecombe County 5 CX_ / 99 `1 '7 RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR FLOOD RELIEF TO EDGECOMBE COUNTY . WHEREAS, the citizens of Edgecombe County suffered great loss of life, dwellings and the resources for normal existence, as well as unmeasurable damage to their communities and sense of well-being, due to the flooding from Hurricane Floyd; and WHEREAS, full recovery will be a long and arduous process; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Orange County, the Board of County Commissioners, and County staff empathize with the challenges faced by our neighbors in Edgecombe County; and WHEREAS, Orange County citizens remain grateful for the assistance afforded them by others in the wake of the disaster that befell our county in 1996 due to Hurricane Fran; and WHEREAS, all in Orange County wish to assist our neighbors in eastern North Carolina in the recovery from Hurricane Floyd. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Orange County Board of Commissioners hereby directs the County Manager and staff to coordinate proactive relief efforts with the Town Managers of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough, and respond to requests by Edgecombe County for equipment, staff and other support that may be provided for the duration of the recovery period.
