BACKGROUND: Mel Rashkis, co-chair of the Triangle United Way campaign asked that Orange County indicate its support of United Way by proclaiming September as United Way month in Orange County. RECOMMENDATION: Approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation on behalf of the Board of Commissioners. 2 PROCLAMATION FOR UNITED WAY MONTH IN Orange COUNTY WHEREAS, it is the mission of the Triangle United Way to "increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another" and WHEREAS, United Way funds health and human service programs in 27 Orange County organizations and WHEREAS, Orange County residents raised more than $1.2 million during the 1996 United Way campaign to meet the needs of their neighbors and WHEREAS, community support of United Way has really made a difference in the lives of those in Orange County who really need help and WHEREAS, it is evident that Orange County is a caring community, much like a family. NOW, THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Commissioners do hereby proclaim September to be United Way month in Orange County and urge citizens to join in and actively participate in the United Way campaign and all of its activities in order to continue making a difference in the lives of Orange County citizens.
