BACKGROUND: On June 30, 1993, Pearson Stewart was appointed to the County's Agricultural Districts Advisory Board. This group has worked diligently to establish a firm foundation for Orange County's voluntary farmland preservation program, which has designated three farms totaling 1,038 acres as Voluntary Agricultural Districts. Pearson Stewart has enjoyed a distinguished career as a land planner and conservationist. As a founding member of the Triangle Land Conservancy, Pearson has been the ADAB member uniquely qualified to recognize the importance of conservation easements and other voluntary measures to preserve Orange County's prime agricultural lands and rural landscapes. He is to be commended for his expertise and leadership as an Orange County volunteer. RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends approval of the Resolution of Appreciation for Pearson Stewart for his service on the Orange County Agricultural Districts Advisory Board. 2 RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION for PEARSON STEWART WHEREAS, Pearson Stewart was appointed as a member of the Orange County Agricultural Districts Advisory Board on June 30, 1993; and WHEREAS, he faithfully served his fellow citizens of Orange County on this volunteer commission which laid the foundation for the County's program of voluntary farmland preservation; and WHEREAS, his knowledge and experience in land conservation and planning consistently guided the Agricultural Districts Advisory Board in their efforts; THEREFORE, the members of the Orange County Board of Commissioners do hereby thank Pearson Stewart, upon his retirement from the Orange County Agricultural Districts Advisory Board, for the service he performed on their behalf.
