BACKGROUND: The approved 1996-2006 Capital Improvements Plan includes funding for portions of two projects, to be drawn down from funds accumulated through 1996-97 by Orange County in the State Public School Building Capital Fund. The amounts are $200,000 for Hillsborough Elementary School renovations, and $315,465 for the East Chapel Hill High School construction project. The Commissioners' approval of the two attached applications, which have already been approved by the respective Boards of Education,will permit the State Budget Office to release these capital funds for expenditure on these two projects. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the applications, and authorize the Chair to sign them. Short Description Of Construction Project: Renovations of a 6'grade center to an elementary school. Work includes cafeteria renovation, addition of carpet in the classrooms, wiring to accommodate technology, and techology equipment purchases.
