ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
HILLSBOROUGH,NORTH CAROLINA
RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION
For
Anne T. 316' tt n
WHEREAS, the Honorable Anne C. Barnes was elected by the citizens of Orange County to serve as a county
commissioner in November, 1978 and served until December 15, 1981 at which time she was elected to the
North Carolina House of Representatives where she served with distinction from 1.981 until 1996; and
WHEREAS, while an Orange County Commissioner, she gave freely of her time and energy with her service to the
board, the Council on Aging, the Agricultural Task Force, the CETA Advisory Council and the Board of
Social Services;and
WHEREAS, in December, 1980, she was elected by her fellow commissioners to serve as chair of the board, the first
woman to serve the Orange County Board of Commissioners in this capacity; and
WHEREAS, throughout her 15-year career in the North Carolina House of Representatives, Anne Barnes earned the
respect and admiration of her colleagues and constituents, serving as chair of the Education Committee and
Education Oversight Committee; and
WHEREAS, during her 27 years of service to Orange County and the State of North Carolina, Anne Barnes has
demonstrated selfless devotion to, patient understanding of, and a unique insight into the concerns of the
citizens she serves; and
NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the Board of Commissioners, acting on behalf of the citizens of Orange
County,hereby expresses to Anne C.Barnes its sincere gratitude and deep appreciation for nearly three decades
of public service;and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be presented to Representative Barnes, to the press, and that the
resolution shall become a part of the minutes of this meeting,this second day of June, 1997.
