The Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange met in regular session
on December,5, 1949, at 10 otclock A. M., in the Commissioners' Room at the
Courthouse. Present: Collier Cobb, Jr., Chairman, and H. G. Laws and Ben F.
Wilson, Commissioners,
The minutes of the November meetings were read and approved.
Upon motion of Commissioner Wilson, seconded by Commissioner Laws, it is
hereby ordered that Caswell Training School be sent $5.00, as a Christmas
donation.
Upon motion of Commissioner Wilson, seconded by Commissioner Laws, and
unanimously passed that County offices be closed December the 26th and 27th as
Christmas holidays. Also, that January 2nd, 1950, be observed as a holiday.
Upon motion of Commissioner Laws, seconded by Commissioner Wilson, the
contract of W. Id. Russ & Company to audit Orange County funds for the year be-
ginning July 1, 1949 and ending June 30, 1950, at a price of $1250.00 was un-
animously approved.
Upon motion of Commissioner Wilson, duly seconded by Commissioner Cobb, it
is hereby ordered that H. G. Laws be paid $2.70 for three chickens killed by
dogs.
Upon motion of Commissioner Laws, duly seconded by Commissioner W,
the application of Nancy Thomas for Aid to Blind was rejected, due to
income. The following revisions were approved:
Polly Wrenn from $27.00 per month to $32.00 per month
Jesse Jones was transferred from 0. A. A. to Aid to
Blind, the amount of grant being $33.00 per month.
Upon motion of Commissioner Laws, seconded by Commissioner Wilson, Ira A.
Ward is hereby appointed Pam Census Supervisor for the year 1950, along with
the following list takers: R. C. Compton, Cedar Grove; Carlton McKee, Hillsbor
L. R. Cheek, Chapel Hill; Jeter C. Lloyd, Bingham; A. E. Wilson, Little River;
Henry Heath, Cheeks; Mrs. M. R. Cates, Eno. The duties of the list takers this
year will include the Pam Census listings for which they will receive $ .10 pe
farm as additional compensation.
Upon motion of Commissioner Wilson, seconded by Commissioner Laws, Ira A.
Ward is hereby appointed Tax Supervisor for the year 1950-
Upon motion of Commissioner Laws, seconded by Commissioner Wilson, the
following roads were approved for hardsurfacing:
1. Cole Mill Road from Durham County Line to Saint Maryws.
2. Road leaving Highway 70 at the Power Plant and running to Pleasant Green
Church.
3. Carrboro to Chatham County Line, intersecting Highways 15 -501 at the Chathi
County Line.,
4. Antioch Church Road, West from Aubrey McLennon's Farm to Alamance County L:
5. Damascus Church Road, extension of road South of University Lake.
6. Extension of.the Chapel Hill Airport Road North by Blackwood Station and
New Hope Church to Old Highway No. 10 at Dr. Carr's Pam.
7. Hebron Road from Highway 54 in Oaks Community to the Alamance County Line.
B. Buckhorn- Cheeks Crossing Road.
9. Lynch's Store Road from Alamance County Line Northeast to Highway 49.
.0. Two roads running North from Railroad in West Hillsboro to West Hillsboro
School and thence West to road leading to Highway 70.
There being no further business, upon motion, adjourned.
