BACKGROUND: In recent months, Town and County recreation advisory boards and staff have been exploring with Eurosport the possibilities for developing a sports complex at the northern end of Fairview Park that could accommodate soccer, baseball, softball, and basketball fields and courts. A proposal from the Olympus Group for the production of a feasibility study for such a sports complex is attached for review and discussion. RECOMMENDATION(S): Receive as information and discuss whether and how to proceed with this proposal. Town of H ills g h , MEMORANDUM To: Chairman Crowther and Orange County Board of Commissioners Mayor Johnson and Hillsborough Town Board members From: Eric Swanson, Hillsborough Town Manager Date: March 28, 1997 RE Report on potential active sports complex in Northern Fairview In 1996 the Town of Hillsborough was given 24 acres of potential park land behind the Hillsborough Business Center. Eurosport expressed its interest to the Town in cooperatively locating a soccer facility on that site. As the potential was investigated, it became clear that the site had numerous constraints and was better suited to some other recreational use. The possibility of siting an active sports complex on property owned by Orange County and the Town of Hillsborough in Northern Fairview came out of these discussions. Eurosport expressed keen interest in a larger, more regularly shaped area. Eurosport and Olympus International collaborated on a site design which incorporates soccer, softball, baseball, and basketball on one site. Other possible features include parking,concession/rest facilities, passive areas, and a playground. The plan has been briefly reviewed by Orange County Recreation and Parks staff, the park advisory committees from both jurisdictions, town staff and elected officials, and Eurosport._. The first step to proceed with a joint effort would require a feasibility study of the site. We are all well aware of some constraints which the Fairview Park site has. The attached is a description, provided by Olympus International about the scope for a feasibility study and an estimated cost for them to complete the study. At this point we are asking the elected boards to discuss their willingness to participate and proceed with this project. 101 East Orange Street • P.O.
