PURPOSE: To receive a preliminary report on the development of the County's Strategic
Automation Plan.
BACKGROUND: One of the recommendations submitted to the Board of Commissioners by the
Innovation& Efficiency Committee in April 1996 was that the County should develop and
implement a written Strategic Automation Plan to serve as a blueprint for the County's automation
enhancements over the next three to five years. A work group comprised of a number of department
heads has begun to discuss the issues and priorities that will shape this plan.
The Strategic Automation Plan is being prepared so that it will tie in to the 1997-2007 Capital
Improvements Plan and the 1997-98 operating budget. Information Systems Director Dick Taylor
will make a brief presentation about the work group's initial efforts, and will respond to any
comments or questions the Board may have.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the report for
information only at this time -an additional presentation to the Board is planned for Spring 1997.
