Monday, June 6, 1949
The Board met at the usual hour in the Commissioners' Room at the Court-
house. Present: Collier Cobb, Jr., Chairman, Ben P. Nilson and H. G. Lams,
Commissioners.
The minutes of the may meetings were read and approved.
Mr. hordie Fitzgerald, County Fire harden, appeared and reported on the
work done through his office for eleven months ending June 1, 1949.
Air. T. M. Riley presented a road petition asking the State Highway 8: Publ:
'storks Commission to construct and maintain a road leading from his house to
J. D. 4loods, a distance of approximately eight- tenths of a mile. No action
was taken on this measure.
Mr. C. Ft. Davis, Superintendent of Chapel Hill Schools appeared and pre-
sented Capital Outlay request for the Chapel Hill Schools for the next fiscal
year, amounting to 529,447.40.
Ltr s. Jean M. Hear, Superintendent of Public Welfare presented her proposes
budget for the next fiscal year, which shows a sizeable increase over the
1946 -1949 budget.
Dr. 0. David Garvin, Superintendent of Public Health presented his pr000s<
budget, which also called for increased appropriations.
The Board of Education met in joint session with the Commissioners and
discussed their needs for the neat fiscal year.
All budget proposals, called for increased appropriations over last year,
but the Board took no action on these reaues ts, ne nding careful study and fine:
adoption at their July meeting.
Upon motion, the folloving bills were approved and ordered paid:
J. D. Hay - Chickens killed by dogs - f$7.50
Lee Miller - 1 turkey gobbler killed by dogs - 66.25
There being no further business, upon motion, adjourned.
